<p><strong>Location:</strong> Portsmouth Broad Oak, hybrid, 4 days on site weekly</p>

<p><strong>Role description:</strong></p>
<p>This role focuses on the electronic and electrical aspects of hardware design, ensuring system definitions meet design requirements and compliance standards. You will review designs including circuit boards, layouts, and system interconnects, applying <span class="rec-format">strong</span> engineering knowledge, governance, and oversight to maintain quality and consistency.</p>
<p>You will support design integration for legacy products and technology insertion, working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to ensure a cohesive system approach. <span class="rec-format">The role</span> also offers opportunities to <span class="rec-format">lead</span> small teams, contributing to delivery, development, and inclusive team success.</p>
<p><strong>Core duties: </strong></p>
<ul>
<li><span class="rec-format">Lead</span> electronic assembly design from concept to service, providing technical <span class="rec-format">leadership</span> and mentoring engineers</li>
<li>Design component‑level electronics using CAE tools, supporting volume production, obsolescence <span class="rec-format">management</span>, and technology insertion</li>
<li>Develop circuitry including ADC/DAC conversion, power decoupling, and collaborate on EMC‑compliant PCB layouts and subsystems</li>
<li>Apply rigorous safety and legislative compliance for high‑power and high‑voltage electronic systems and equipment</li>
<li>Deliver design proving, system integration, and <span class="rec-format">proactive</span> defect investigation and resolution to ensure reliable performance</li>
<li>Produce robust technical evidence for safety and compliance, applying <span class="rec-format">expertise</span> in FPGA design, power electronics, and test techniques</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Essential skills:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li><span class="rec-format">Proven</span> experience <span class="rec-format">leading</span> electronic hardware design from concept through to release and in service support</li>
<li><span class="rec-format">Strong</span> technical <span class="rec-format">leadership</span> capability, including mentoring engineers and providing design authority</li>
<li>Significant experience in design verification, integration, defect resolution, and acceptance evidence</li>
<li>Solid understanding of product safety and integrity, and power electronics and power supply considerations</li>
<li>Experience working with PCB designers on EMC aware layout, component selection, and obsolescence <span class="rec-format">management</span></li>
<li>FPGA design and implementation</li>
<li style="line-height:1.25;">You’ll hold a degree or equivalent in Electronic Engineering or strongly related subject</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>The Engineering Team:</strong></p>
<p>Join the team within Underwater capability delivery, where the Electronics team drives the full lifecycle of electronics, from design and manufacturing to production and in-service support, covering obsolescence <span class="rec-format">management</span> and redesign for manufacturability.</p>
<p>This role focuses on high-integrity electronics development, including VHDL design, coding, <span class="rec-format">analysis</span>, and simulation. <span class="rec-format">The role</span> and team ensure long-term operational success by <span class="rec-format">managing</span> technology insertions and obsolescence while maintaining full compliance with safety legislation and customer requirements.</p>
