<p>Lead Mechanical Engineer</p><p><br><br>Make your application after reading the following skill and qualification requirements for this position.<br></p><p>We’re looking for an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer to take on a key technical leadership role within a complex hardware programme. </p><p><br></p><p>You will act as the technical lead for tape handling and control, ensuring robust mechanical performance across the system. This is a hands-on role where you will guide design, integration, and verification activities while influencing technical direction across the team.</p><p><br></p><p>Key responsibilities include:</p><ul><li>Defining mechanical tolerances, repeatability requirements, and verification methods to ensure reliable system behaviour</li><li>Developing test methods, rigs, and validation approaches for tape movement, positioning, and repeatability</li><li>Reducing technical risk related to tape positioning, path control, and mechanical interfaces</li><li>Supporting initial system integration, identifying risks early and resolving them through structured build and test activities</li><li>Enhancing life-test methodologies to assess tape management performance under realistic operating conditions</li><li>Peer reviewing mechanical designs, test plans, and verification evidence to ensure technical quality</li><li>Providing technical leadership and guidance to engineers without formal line management responsibility</li></ul><p>Your experience will include:</p><ul><li>Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline</li><li>Around 8+ years of industry experience in mechanical engineering or precision hardware development</li><li>Proven experience leading the delivery of mechanical systems, subsystems, or major workstreams xwzovoh </li><li>Experience defining mechanical requirements, tolerances, repeatability, and verification strategies</li><li>Understanding of quality requirements for mechanical systems, beyond performance metrics</li><li>Hands-on experience building, testing, debugging, and improving mechanical hardware</li><li>Knowledge of mechanical failure modes (e.g. wear, alignment, tension, friction, material handling)</li><li>Experience working cross-functionally during system integration</li></ul><p><br></p><p>Apply now or contact Gemma for more information.</p>
