<p>Job Title: Caretaker</p><p><strong>Location:</strong> Bracknell, Berkshire<strong>Start Date:</strong> ASAP<strong>Contract:</strong> Full-time / Part-time - amend as required </p><p>Job Purpose</p><p>We are seeking a reliable, proactive and flexible <strong>Caretaker</strong> to support the day-to-day running, safety and presentation of a busy secondary school site in Bracknell. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the school buildings and grounds are secure, well maintained and ready for use throughout the school day.</p><p>Key Responsibilities</p><p>The Caretaker will be responsible for:</p><ul><li>Ensuring the buildings and site are secure, including daily security checks and locking/unlocking at designated times</li><li>Opening the site promptly each day and ensuring it is fully prepared for the school day</li><li>Securing the site at the end of the day by locking doors, windows and gates, turning off gas and electrical appliances, and setting alarms correctly</li><li>Acting as a <strong>Registered Key Holder</strong> and attending emergency call-outs as part of an on-call rota</li><li>Proactively identifying, reporting and resolving building defects and damaged equipment, maintaining a high standard of repair</li><li>Keeping accurate records relating to maintenance and site security</li><li>Working in line with health and safety regulations, addressing hazards and reporting serious concerns immediately</li><li>Undertaking general porterage duties, including moving furniture and equipment</li><li>Supervising contractors on site under the direction of the Site Manager</li><li>Operating site systems such as heating, lighting, cooling and security (including CCTV and alarms)</li><li>Receiving deliveries to the school</li><li>Collecting and preparing waste for collection</li><li>Carrying out periodic cleaning of allocated areas within the school buildings and grounds</li><li>Maintaining familiarity with the asbestos register and ensuring contractors refer to it before commencing work</li><li>Assisting with the maintenance of specialist equipment (e.g. sports or theatrical equipment) following appropriate training</li><li>Participating in training and development activities as part of the school's performance management framework</li><li>Keeping all storage areas clean, tidy and free from hazards</li><li>Covering duties for absent premises staff when required</li><li>Undertaking emergency and additional cleaning as needed (e.g. toilets, medical room, parents' evenings)</li><li>Ensuring litter bins are emptied daily and that grounds, pathways and surfaces are clean and well maintained</li><li>Carrying out any other reasonable duties as directed by the Headteacher or Site Manager</li></ul><p>Person Specification</p><p>The ideal candidate will:</p><ul><li>Be dependable, practical and organised</li><li>Have experience of caretaking, site management or building maintenance (desirable)</li><li>Demonstrate a strong awareness of health and safety requirements</li><li>Be able to work independently and as part of a team</li><li>Be flexible and willing to respond to emergencies or changing priorities</li></ul><p>Safeguarding</p><p>This role involves working in an educational environment.
