DHT 2 JS-129-142 - £67,218 (Subject to Job Sizing)

Full Time - 35 hours per week
There are currently 4 standalone ELC settings, 30 primary schools, 6 secondary schools, 1 special school and special provisions in each locality providing support for children with a range of physical, social, emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties. The schools range in size from the smallest primary school, with approximately 50 pupils, to the largest secondary with approximately 1600 pupils.
Standalone ELC settings provide a curriculum for children from 3-5 years. Midlothian is in Partnership with private and third sector providers to meet demand.
Primary Schools provide for all P1-P7 pupils a curriculum that reflects Curriculum for Excellence. Almost all our schools have an ELC setting.
Secondary Schools provide for all pupils access to a Broad General Education in S1-S3 and a Senior Phase in which pupils undertake formal qualifications in S4 –S6.
Special School offers a curriculum designed to support children with a range of complex additional support needs.

From August 2026, the school will comprise 14 classes and a 64-place nursery, serving almost 450 children. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking leader to join a growing school with a strong sense of identity and clear aspirations for the future. The successful candidate will lead the upper primary stage, including supporting transition into secondary school, while also retaining valuable class contact time of up to one day per week. This balance offers the opportunity to combine strategic leadership with meaningful day-to-day engagement in teaching and learning, within a welcoming and collegiate school environment.
Interviews will take place on Tuesday 9 th June 2026 with the Head Teacher, A Quality Improvement Manager from Midlothian Council and a Parent Council Member. Pre Employment Checks/Requirements for Teaching Positions
If you are successful, our offer of employment will be conditional on satisfactory completion of pre-employment requirements, such as medical screening, two written references, one which must be from your most recent/current employer, verification of your original qualifications and your eligibility to work in the United Kingdom. Registration with the General Teaching Council and a satisfactory PVG check for Regulated Work with Children will also be essential.
