Senior Java Engineer (Spark, Scala, Java)

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Java / Spark / Scala Developer to join our team in Glasgow. The ideal candidate will have strong hands‑on development experience in Java, Apache Spark, and Scala, with a passion for building scalable, high‑performance data processing applications. Knowledge of AI/ML concepts will be considered a strong advantage.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable applications using Java, Scala, and Apache Spark
• Build and optimize large‑scale data processing pipelines
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to understand business and technical requirements
• Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code following best practices
• Troubleshoot, debug, and enhance application performance
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and deployment activities
• Contribute to architecture and design discussions for data‑intensive applications

Required Skills & Experience

• 5–8 years of software development experience
• Strong hands‑on expertise in Java
• Strong experience with Apache Spark
• Solid programming skills in Scala
• Experience in developing and optimizing distributed data processing applications
• Good understanding of software development best practices, design patterns, and code quality
• Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Preferred / Nice to Have

• Exposure to AI / Machine Learning concepts or projects
• Familiarity with cloud platforms and modern data architectures is a plus
