Senior Data Engineer
Salary: £48,000 - £56,000
Contract: Permanent, 37 Hours Per Week
Location: Manchester, Hybrid Working
We're working with a leading university in the North West to recruit a Senior Data Engineer to join its Software Engineering function.
This is an excellent opportunity to join an organisation investing heavily in its digital and data capabilities, where you'll play a key role in designing, developing and delivering enterprise-scale data solutions that support critical business functions across the university.
The Role
Working as part of a collaborative Software Engineering function, you'll be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining scalable data solutions, from ingestion through to reporting and analytics.
You'll work closely with technical teams and stakeholders across the organisation to deliver high-quality data platforms and contribute to the adoption of modern data engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines
- Develop robust SQL-based data solutions and optimise database performance
- Build and support enterprise data warehouse solutions
- Design data integration processes and data models
- Work with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Ensure data quality, governance and best practice across the data estate
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical standards within the team
- Support the ongoing evolution of the organisation's modern data platform
Essential Skills & Experience
We're particularly interested in candidates with strong experience in:
- SQL (advanced)
- Azure Data Factory (ADF)
- Designing and building ETL/ELT pipelines
- Data warehouse design and development
- Working with enterprise-scale relational databases
- Building scalable, reliable data engineering solutions
- Working within Agile delivery environments
Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:
- Databricks
- Microsoft Fabric
- Oracle databases
- Azure cloud technologies
- Git/source control
- Reporting and analytics platforms
