Associate Environmental Consultant
Tetra Tech Europe
📍 Belfast, GB
Job description
Associate Environmental Consultant
Shape Strategic Environmental Outcomes Across the UK and Ireland
Tetra Tech is seeking to appoint an Associate Environmental Consultant to join our Planning & Environmental team. Based in our Belfast office, this senior position offers the opportunity to lead complex environmental projects, provide strategic technical direction and play an influential role in the ongoing development of our environmental services across the UK and Ireland.
The role is based in a large, permanently desked office located on the edge of the city with on‑site parking, strong public transport connections and excellent access to major road networks. This position supports hybrid working, with an expectation of two to three days each week in the office to support leadership presence, team coordination and mentoring. Flexible working arrangements can be accommodated where project responsibilities allow. You will work as part of a dynamic multidisciplinary environment, contributing to high‑profile and nationally significant projects across water and wastewater, renewables, residential, commercial and major infrastructure sectors.
Purpose & Scope of the Role
As an Associate Environmental Consultant, you will provide senior technical and project leadership across a wide range of environmental assessments and advisory services. You will lead the delivery of Environmental Impact Assessments, including the preparation and coordination of EIA Screening and Scoping reports, ensuring that environmental constraints and opportunities are rigorously assessed from the outset of a project. You will take responsibility for environmental inputs on complex and large‑scale development proposals, including major infrastructure projects, ensuring that assessments, mitigation strategies and recommendations are clearly articulated and defensible.
You will oversee the preparation of outline Construction Environmental Management Plans (oCEMPs), ensuring that construction‑phase environmental risks, obligations and mitigation measures are appropriately defined and embedded within project delivery frameworks. You will guide feasibility studies, site appraisals and early‑stage environmental evaluations that help clients understand development potential, constraints and design considerations at the earliest stages of project formation.
In addition to technical delivery, you will lead project management activities, taking ownership of budgets, programmes, resourcing, quality assurance and client communication. You will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, provide strategic direction, engage with regulators and oversee project delivery from initiation through to completion.
Your Impact in this Position
Your work will play a pivotal role in shaping the environmental performance and regulatory compliance of major development and infrastructure projects across the region. Through your leadership of EIA processes, feasibility assessments, stakeholder engagement and environmental advisory services, you will influence decision‑making, inform design development and help clients navigate complex environmental frameworks with confidence.
By providing senior oversight of environmental reporting, stakeholder consultations and construction‑phase management plans, you will ensure that environmental risks are identified early, managed proportionately and integrated effectively into project planning and delivery. Your contribution will extend beyond project delivery, helping to strengthen internal processes, enhance technical methodologies and promote continual improvement across the environmental discipline.
As a visible and trusted leader, you will support the growth and capability of the team by mentoring junior and mid‑level colleagues, sharing best practice, and supporting the development of technical competencies. Your strategic insight and leadership will contribute directly to Tetra Tech’s reputation for delivering high‑quality environmental services and sound, pragmatic environmental advice.
