Nordson Test & Inspection, a global leader in world-class metrology equipment and inspection systems, is seeking a motivated and talented Manufacturing Engineer (X-ray Detectors) to join our team in Aylesbury, United Kingdom .<br/><br/>Do not wait to apply after reading this description a high application volume is expected for this opportunity.<br/><br/>Summary of the role The Manufacturing Engineer defines, manages, and monitors how the product will be manufactured and/or assembled on the production line both at module and final unit stages.<br/><br/>You will be responsible for implementation of production processes and procedures, and leading productivity improvements with project-based activities.<br/><br/>This will include new product introduction and process optimisation to reduce waste, reducing operating costs and improving quality and safety.<br/><br/>The role entails significant responsibility.<br/><br/>You will work on many phases or sub-tasks of projects of differing complexity, while being responsible for ensuring continuous production at our various sub-contractors.<br/><br/>Role and Responsibilities Support production activities at supplier / sub-contractor sites as well as Southampton detector related items.<br/><br/>Reduce variability in manufacturing by providing standard work methods and work instructions.<br/><br/>Report on production performance (process performance, yield, lead time, etc).<br/><br/>Maintain statistical and traceability records.<br/><br/>Supervise and train sub-contractors.<br/><br/>Develop or maintain production test software ensuring product quality and traceability.<br/><br/>Ensure product and process quality meets specifications required.<br/><br/>Design new systems and processes to ensure the cost-effective integration of new products or for the improvement of existing ones into manufacturing operations.<br/><br/>Ensure all product and system requirements are considered from initial conception to finished result.<br/><br/>Support and lead continuous improvement, problem solving and process improvement activities.<br/><br/>Investigate production and process issues providing technical support and training.<br/><br/>Skills and Qualifications Degree in a relevant engineering, manufacturing or science degree is required.<br/><br/>3 years Experience of working in a production environment and working with sub-contractors.<br/><br/>Experience of problem solving using standard techniques such as FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis).<br/><br/>Understanding of design and production costs including waste, downtime, scrap, and re-work.<br/><br/>Semiconductor background or experience is an advantage.<br/><br/>CAD knowledge, preferably Autodesk Inventor.<br/><br/>Jig prototyping / design.<br/><br/>Test data analysis.<br/><br/>Identification of common faults.<br/><br/>Image analysis / grading to specification (optical / X-ray).<br/><br/>Broad general engineering capabilities (including system-level understanding).<br/><br/>Understands engineering, scientific, and other technical information.<br/><br/>Strong problem-solving skills and logical approach.<br/><br/>Familiar with problem solving methodology (8D, FMEA, brainstorming, …).<br/><br/>Understands lean manufacturing and manufacturing processes.<br/><br/>Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment.<br/><br/>Ability to present data effectively.<br/><br/>Good understanding of customer expectations and deliverables with an awareness of the impact of failure/cost of poor quality.<br/><br/>Basic knowledge of image sensors and/or X-ray detector systems desirable.<br/><br/>Travel Approximately 1 day per month visiting Nordson Southampton (Detector R&D).<br/><br/>Opportunity to travel to other Nordson sites, suppliers and subcontractors both in the UK and overseas.<br/><br/>Benefits We offer a flexible work schedule, a comprehensive benefits package, and opportunities for growth and development.<br/><br/>Our benefits do further include: Company Healthcare Scheme after successful completion of probationary period (3 months) Group Personal Pension Plan – 4% minimum employee contribution, 6% employer contribution after successful completion of probationary period (3 months) 25 days annual holiday entitlement, plus public holidays Interested?
