<p>Job Description</p><br>A variety of soft skills and experience may be required for the following role Please ensure you check the overview below carefully.<br><p>SEND Pastoral Teaching Assistant</p><p>We are currently recruiting on behalf of a specialist education provision in Halifax for an experienced SEND Pastoral Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support pupils across KS1–KS5 with SEMH and complex additional needs.</p><p>This is a rewarding opportunity for a confident, resilient practitioner who is passionate about supporting vulnerable learners through structured learning, pastoral care, and trauma-informed practice.</p><p>The Role</p><p>As a Pastoral HLTA, you will provide high-level classroom and pastoral support, working under the guidance of qualified teachers to lead small groups, deliver structured learning, and support behaviour regulation. You will play a vital role in creating a calm, safe, and consistent environment where pupils feel supported to re-engage with learning.</p><p>Key Responsibilities</p><ul><li>Provide mentoring, encouragement, and day-to-day pastoral support for pupils with SEND and SEMH needs</li><li>Lead learning activities, groups, and occasional whole-class sessions under teacher direction</li><li>Support curriculum delivery both in the classroom and through alternative and outdoor learning opportunities</li><li>Assist with lesson preparation, adapting resources to meet individual learning needs</li><li>Implement effective behaviour management and intervention strategies</li><li>Use trauma-informed and restorative approaches to support emotional regulation</li><li>Maintain daily records of pupil progress, engagement, and barriers to learning</li><li>Work collaboratively with teaching staff, families, and external xwzovoh professionals to support holistic development</li></ul><p>The Ideal Candidate</p><ul><li>Passionate about supporting children and young people with SEND</li><li>A minimum of 2 years’ experience working within a SEND, SEMH, or alternative provision</li><li>Strong behaviour management skills with an empathetic, consistent approach</li><li>Experience providing pastoral and emotional support</li><li>Confident working as part of a multidisciplinary team</li><li>Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential)</li></ul>
