RLE International is working on behalf of their Essex based Automotive Client, who are currently looking for a Functional Safety Systems Engineer to support their team.<br><br>Candidates should take the time to read all the elements of this job advert carefully Please make your application promptly.<br>Position Description:<br>Rate: £29.59 (via Umbrella PAYE) – increasing to £38.38 after 12 weeks under AWR’s (Agency Worker Regulations)<br>Our client is seeking a Functional Safety Systems Engineer to join their core team in the Essex. You will be a key player in ensuring complex, distributed technologies including powertrain, infotainment, and active safety meet the highest safety standards. Using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), you will bridge the gap between research and production, turning "what if" into "what’s next." As a key member of an exciting team leading Functional Safety activities in Product Development, this role involves working with technology subject matter experts to conduct Functional Safety analysis using efficient model-based systems engineering (MBSE / SysML) tools. Additionally, you will work with global teams to design simple and safe systems that bring advanced distributed technology from research to production. This role promotes technical growth and team collaboration.<br>Skills Required:<br> * Execute ISO 26262 functional safety activities with cross functional and global teams (e.g., powertrain, infotainment, active safety, driver assistance, and automated features).<br> * Apply client’s ISO 26262 processes, methods, tools, and trainings to develop functional safety software and system work products.<br> * Use MBSE/SysML to model functions, interfaces, and safety-related behaviour; contribute to globally common safety ratings and model libraries.<br> * Support creation of safety concepts and system designs; help transition advanced technologies from research to production.<br> * Produce clear technical documentation and communications supporting audits, reviews, and program milestones.<br> * Lead reviews with key stakeholders and suppliers.<br> * Collaborate with research and advanced engineering, product development, quality, and manufacturing to integrate safety by design.<br> * Identify and drive continuous improvement in processes, methods, tools, and training.<br> * Serve as a growing subject matter expert within the first year and mentor peers in functional safety and systems engineering best practices.<br> * ISO 26262 Proficiency:<br>Practical application of ISO 26262 processes, methods, and tools within a product development environment.<br> * MBSE/SysML Modelling:<br>Ability to model functions, interfaces, and safety-related behaviours using system modelling languages. Technical Documentation: Strong capability in producing clear technical work products to support audits, safety cases, and program milestones.<br> * Cross-Functional Collaboration:<br>Ability to work effectively with global teams across diverse disciplines (Powertrain, Infotainment, Quality, Manufacturing).<br> * Systems Thinking:<br>A proactive approach to understanding complex system interactions and "safety by design" principles.<br>Skills Preferred:<br>Tool Expertise:<br>Hands-on experience with specific MBSE tools such as MagicDraw or Cameo.<br>Technical Leadership:<br>Ability to lead technical workstreams and influence stakeholders across the organization.<br>Communication:<br>Exceptional ability to translate complex technical safety concepts into actionable requirements for non-safety engineering teams.<br>Test Development:<br>Experience developing design verification tests at the component, system, and vehicle levels.<br>Experience Required<br>Strong experience in the development of software-enabled systems.<br>Proven track record of applying the ISO 26262 functional safety standard throughout the product development lifecycle.<br>Experience Preferred:<br>Experience in designing architectures for complex systems, software, or electronic hardware.<br>Experience in the planning, development, and testing of embedded software.
