Sub Agent - Civils (HS2 / Major Infrastructure) Northampton Region Freelance Contract (Inside IR35) £550-£580 per day Immediate Start The Role We are seeking an experienced Sub Agent to join a major infrastructure project in the Northampton region, supporting delivery on a high-profile civil engineering scheme. Working as part of a Tier 1 contractor team, you will take responsibility for the planning, coordination, and delivery of key work packages, ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme, and to specification. Key Responsibilities Manage day-to-day site operations across allocated sections of work Oversee subcontractors delivering civils packages (earthworks, drainage, structures, or highways) Ensure compliance with health, safety & environmental standards Drive programme performance and short-term planning (lookaheads) Review and implement method statements and risk assessments (RAMS) Coordinate with engineering teams to resolve technical issues Monitor progress, quality, and productivity on site Support cost control, forecasting, and reporting to senior management Maintain accurate site records, including diaries and progress reports Liaise with stakeholders including client reps, designers, and supply chain Requirements Proven experience as a Sub Agent or Senior Engineer on major civils / infrastructure projects Strong background in earthworks, drainage, highways or structural works Experience managing subcontractors and site teams Excellent knowledge of CDM regulations and health & safety practices Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications Strong communication and leadership skills SMSTS, CSCS (Black or Gold), and First Aid (preferred) Desirable Experience working on HS2 or other major UK infrastructure projects Familiarity with Tier 1 contractor processes and reporting systems Knowledge of NEC contracts What's on Offer Competitive day rate: £550-£580 Inside IR35 Long-term pipeline of work Opportunity to work on one of the UK's largest infrastructure programmes Immediate start available
