SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Brent, North West London
Start Date: ASAP or September 2026
Contract: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
A welcoming and inclusive 3-form entry mainstream primary school based in Brent is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join their supportive and established team either immediately or from September 2026. The school is looking for staff with strong experience supporting pupils with a wide range of additional needs who are confident working within a structured and fast-paced mainstream environment. Personal care will be required as part of this role.
About the School
This is a large, well-resourced 3-form entry primary school with a strong reputation for inclusion and pupil wellbeing. The school has a highly supportive leadership team and an experienced SEN department who work closely with class teachers to ensure all pupils are fully supported and able to access learning.
The school supports a diverse pupil population with a range of needs including ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, global developmental delay, and complex learning needs. Staff are expected to take a nurturing, consistent, and proactive approach in supporting pupils both academically and emotionally throughout the school day.
There is a strong emphasis on teamwork and collaboration, with regular communication between teachers, SENCOs, support staff, and external professionals. Staff are well supported with ongoing guidance and training to ensure confidence in delivering high-quality SEN support.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
• Provide dedicated 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN
• Support children across KS1 and KS2 within a mainstream classroom setting
• Work closely with pupils who require personal care support
• Implement EHCP targets and individual support plans
• Support communication, emotional regulation, engagement, and learning
• Use structured SEN strategies such as PECS, Makaton, visual timetables, and now-and-next boards
• Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs and abilities
• Support positive behaviour management in line with school policies
• Encourage independence, confidence, and social interaction
• Work closely with class teachers, SENCO, and external professionals (e.g. SALT, OT, EP where applicable)
• Help maintain a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment
About You
• Previous experience supporting children with SEN in a UK school setting is essential
• Minimum Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching & Learning, Early Years, Childcare, or equivalent
• Experience supporting a range of needs including ASD, ADHD, and complex learning needs
• Comfortable and willing to provide personal care
• Confident supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and within small groups
• Strong understanding of EHCPs and targeted support outcomes
• Knowledge of SEN strategies such as PECS, Makaton, visual supports, and now-and-next boards is highly desirable
• Calm, patient, and resilient with a nurturing approach
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Reliable, proactive, and committed to inclusive education
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply through Uniform Education)
