Product Design Engineer

Product Design Engineer Woking, Surrey £28,000 – £30,000 per annum (depending on experience) Graduates Welcome Permanent | Full Time position An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Product Design Engineer to join a long-established British manufacturer specialising in high-quality engineered products for specialist commercial environments. The position would suit either: A Graduate Engineer looking to begin a career within product design and development, or An Engineer with some existing CAD / Design experience in AutoCAD or a similar package, looking to further develop their technical and project engineering skills within a supportive environment. You will work closely with manufacturing, suppliers, compliance teams and commercial stakeholders to develop innovative, practical and manufacturable products. Key Responsibilities - Design & Development * Produce 2D and 3D CAD manufacturing drawings and technical designs & relevant documentation for new and existing products * Develop prototypes using 3D printing and other prototyping methods * Support products throughout the full development lifecycle * Maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings and engineering data within the ERP system * Assist with multiple engineering and product development projects * Support Engineering Change Note (ECN) processes * Work and liaise closely with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable * Contribute to continuous improvement and product enhancement initiatives * Work with suppliers and specialist subcontractors where required * Support compliance with relevant engineering and safety standards * Assist with product testing, validation and certification activities * Contribute to value engineering and cost reduction projects while maintaining quality standards Skills & Experience Required: * Degree or relevant qualification in Product Design, Mechanical Engineering or similar engineering discipline * Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) * A solid understanding of material properties * Knowledge of manufacturing processes (e.g., injection moulding, CNC machining). * Ability to present design concepts and solutions to non-technical personnel or customers * Hands-on experience with 3D printing for prototyping would be very beneficial * Knowledge of ERP systems or BOM management would also be an advantage * Possess strong problem-solving skills with a creative and innovative approach to design * Excellent collaboration skills to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders * Ability to work effectively within a small, dynamic production team * Strong communication abilities * Good attention to detail * Ability to work both independently and as part of a team * Interest in product development, manufacturing and engineering design Additional Benefits: Flexible working hours with early Friday finish potential 26 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays Structured training and onboarding programme Ongoing personal development support Cycle to Work scheme Private medical scheme Employee wellbeing assistance programme Free parking Supportive and collaborative engineering environment Working Hours: Flexible working arrangement with core hours: Monday to Thursday: 9:30am – 4:30pm & Fridays: 9:00am – 1:00pm Earlier start and finish times available subject to business requirements.
