<p><h2> Job Description </h2><p> To lead a team undertaking roads maintenance and improvement works. </p><h2> Requirements </h2><p> To organise labour, plant and materials for their workplace. </p><p> Erect and remove temporary signs, barriers and cones. </p><p> Excavate in any material by hand or with power assisted tools, backfill trenches etc. and consolidate, prepare surfaces for construction purposes. </p><p> Erection of formwork, placing of reinforcing steel and the placing and finishing off of concrete. </p><p> Placing of kerbs, slabs, paving blocks, walling etc. to the correct line and levels. </p><p> Laying of drains, gullies, road furniture and the like to the correct line and levels. </p><p> Laying of coated materials to correct levels. </p><p> Erection of all kinds of fencing, marker posts, sign and lighting poles. </p><p> Operate powered hand tools, minor plant and machinery. </p><p> There is a duty to observe all current Health and Safety legislation and Council policies in respect of the operative, the workforce and the public. </p><p> Keep records and measure completed works. </p><p> Participate in the delivery of the out of hours Winter and Summer service. </p><h2> The Individual </h2><p> Knowledge and experience of roads maintenance/Street Lighting or similar construction works. </p><p> An understanding of health & safety and safe working practices </p><p> Experience of supervising a workforce undertaking roads maintenance/Street Lighting or similar construction works. </p><p> Must be literate and numerate and able to act on instructions. </p><p> Full Car Driving Licence. </p><p> Possession of LGV licence. </p><p> SVQ in Highway Maintenance / Road Building. </p><p> Possession of a Construction Skills Certificate Scheme Card. </p><p> Ability to demonstrate that they can clearly communicate instructions to others. </p><p> Self confident and self motivated. </p><p> Ability to carry out tasks with minimal supervision. </p><p> Ability to undertake daily checks of plant/vehicles. </p><p> Knowledge and ability to undertake a wide range of Roads Maintenance/Street Lighting activities. </p><p> Flexible and adaptable. </p><p> Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships for team working with colleagues. </p><p> Well organised, helpful and able to show initiative. </p><p> Courtesy, politeness and ability to listen to peoples views and communicate successfully with a wide range of contacts. </p><p> Manual and physical dexterity for working out of doors and on construction sites in accordance with manual handling regulations. </p><p> Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs and demands of the service including participation in out of hours Winter and Summer service. </p><p> Re-advertisement of MOR11535 - Previous applicants need not apply </p><p> Closing Date: 22 May 2026<br> Starting Salary: £33,419.88<br>£17.37 per hour <br>37 hours per week </p><p> For Further information contact Grant Brotherston 01343 557343</p>
