As part of continued growth, they are seeking an experienced <b> Principal Mechanical Engineer </b> to play a leading role in the development of cutting-edge electric motor technology from concept through to production readiness. </p><p> This is an outstanding opportunity for a senior engineer with deep expertise in electric machine mechanical design, thermal management, and validation to join a highly collaborative and technically ambitious engineering environment. </p><p></p><p><b> The Opportunity </b></p><p> As Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will take ownership of the mechanical and thermal design of advanced electric motors, ensuring robust, manufacturable, and high-performing solutions capable of operating reliably in demanding real-world environments. </p><p> Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams across electromagnetic, controls, manufacturing, and testing, you will drive the full development lifecycle - from early-stage concept design through analysis, testing, validation, and transition into production. </p><p></p><p><b> Key Responsibilities </b></p><ul><li> Lead the mechanical design and physical integration of electric machines </li><li> Design high-speed rotor systems including magnet selection, placement, and retention strategies </li><li> Develop robust shaft, bearing, and housing solutions </li><li> Define and implement air-cooled thermal management strategies </li><li> Integrate stator windings, insulation systems, flux rings, and sensing solutions </li><li> Conduct and guide mechanical, thermal, vibration, and tolerance analysis </li><li> Lead FMEA activities, root cause investigations, and design robustness reviews </li><li> Define and oversee structured validation and verification plans </li><li> Review and interpret test data to drive continuous design improvement </li><li> Ensure designs are manufacturable, scalable, and cost-effective </li><li> Support customer and stakeholder discussions with clear technical communication </li></ul><p></p><p><b> What We’re Looking For </b></p><ul><li> Proven experience in electric machine design with a strong focus on mechanical and thermal engineering </li><li> Motor experience </li><li> Extensive experience designing rotor systems for high-speed operation </li><li> Strong understanding of magnet retention methods and stator integration </li><li> Experience with motor build, testing, and validation activities </li><li> Knowledge of air-cooled thermal management systems </li><li> Experience leading FMEA and failure analysis processes </li><li> Familiarity with mechanical and thermal simulation/analysis tools </li><li> Strong understanding of materials used in electric machines, including electrical steels, magnets, and conductors </li><li> Ability to balance performance, durability, manufacturability, and cost considerations </li><li> Excellent communication and problem-solving skills </li><li> Degree qualified in Engineering or equivalent professional accreditation </li></ul><p></p><p><b> Why Apply?</b></p><p> This is an exciting chance to join a forward-thinking engineering organisation developing next-generation propulsion technologies with real-world impact.
