Job description
As a practitioner within the Integrated Project Controls group, operating as part of the infrastructure team, the Risk and Opportunity Manager will be responsible for supporting the development of the risk and opportunity management capability within the business whilst delivering risk and opportunity management services to internal and external clients. This will focus on the identification and mitigation of risks and the identification and realisation of opportunities to maximise the likelihood of meeting project goals, delivering programme requirements, and achieving Portfolio / contract objectives. This will focus on the identification and mitigation of risks and the identification and realisation of opportunities to maximise the likelihood of meeting project goals, delivering programme requirements, and achieving Portfolio / contract objectives. This is a national role therefore your base office will be agreed to align with the role requirements and your home location. You will work on a hybrid basis of: Ridge office, client site office and home office.
Develop risk and opportunity registers – including title, cause, consequence, ownership, actions.
Ensure that risks, issues, controls and benefits (opportunities) are monitored and reported through suitable processes.
Undertake quantitative and qualitative risk and opportunity analysis (as applicable) in support of ongoing management of the contract and the delivery of programmes and projects.
Support the development and mentoring of risk practitioner(s) - including the provision of line management for Risk Practitioner(s) that may operate within projects that you support from time to time.
Establish the required governance process(es) (including definition of the audit schedule and its implementation) for risk and opportunity management for all work within the portfolio and ensure reliance can be placed on the outcomes of the assurance processes.
Support the production, maintenance and monitoring of integrated scope, cost and schedule baselines & underpinning data, regarding determination and allocation of discrete risk and estimating uncertainty.
Ensure adherence to the client's risk process and challenge ‘constructively' to seek advanced agreement on where revised / adapted processes and procedures will be implemented.
Client's Project Managers) regarding risk and opportunities in the development of budget and schedule forecasting.
Lead, motivate and develop direct reports to deliver a professional, customer focused high performing Risk and Opportunity Management service.
Undertake and support business development and sales activity to secure new work and extend / grow existing contracts / client relationships.
Develop and implement key risk and opportunity management processes and procedures to enable efficient and effective management and control.
Provide clear and concise guidance to the Senior Project Controls Manager (SPCM) on actions required to optimise achievement of business outcomes and, when allocated to a project, contract objectives given the current risk & opportunity level(s).
Maintain risk and opportunity data to demonstrate the continued viability of the Portfolio;
Ensure the accuracy of risk and opportunity data communicated and reported to all stakeholders and highlight any current and potential issues.
Leads and facilitates effective risk activities that drive ownership, action and results.
Demonstrates awareness by balancing risk, opportunity, cost and value considerations.
Qualifications and training
Minimum of 5 years relevant experience working in a ‘risk' function.
Qualified to Bachelor's OR Master's Degree level in risk management / project management (or equivalent degree subject) preferable – but not essential
Prior experience of working within an integrated PMO (Portfolio, Programme or Project) preferable – but not essential.
Experience of developing, setting, and updating actions to ensure that performance can be tracked in terms of progress toward achieving required / desired outcomes.
Commitment to understanding and meeting stakeholder expectations and improving programme and project performance
Experienced in the use of the Microsoft Office applications including Excel
- Expert user of Risk Management applications (e.g., Acumen Risk or Safran)
